Intro
Project UI for a website on desktop and mobile. Redesign of forma.zut.edu.pl website.

Introduction

The project was created during the Digital Designer course led by Tom Biskup, a Digital Art Director & Designer. It is a redesign of the Forma Gallery of Architects, located at the University in Szczecin. The gallery is mainly dedicated to students and lecturers of the university.

The goal of the redesign was to create a new logo and visual identity. The website is meant to be clear and have a peaceful colour scheme that is pleasant to the eye. The minimalism introduced on the website emphasizes its details and does not distract the user's attention from the exhibitions.

The project also includes a well-thought-out design system. I designed the typography, icons, buttons, colours and components. The entire project can be viewed on Figma through the link 'View website'

UI Design

The project consists of a graphical part, but I also wanted to design interactions, so I prepared a prototype of the website. I wanted the page to be engaging for the user, so I introduced interactions during scrolling and hovering over buttons. Designing interactions at this stage allows us to test if they are user-friendly and saves time and money in implementing the project.

Horizontal Scroll

In the mobile project, I used horizontal scrolling. The user can swipe their finger to the right or left to discover more artists. They also have the option to click on arrows that signal that more information about the artists is available.

Vertical Scroll

When opening the exhibitions tab, only part of the organized events are displayed. Only after scrolling through the entire section, the user has the ability to view the rest of the exhibitions. This was designed to avoid extending the scrolling to the end of the page and to ensure that the page opens and loads quickly on mobile devices.

Learnings

The project was the final assignment of a Digital Designer course, which focused on using Figma and designing aesthetic and harmonious website layouts. After completing this project, I feel like a more aware designer and have learned how to justify my decisions. My biggest achievements were:

  • Creating a prototype and designing interactions;
  • Taking a broader approach to the project by creating a design system;
  • Maintaining visual composition and rhythm, as well as hierarchy and information architecture;
  • Designing contrasting typographic systems.
